Featured Project: Campfire, a TTRPG that’s great for travel
*As a note, the intro is written by Steph from TTRPGkids, and the article was written by the project’s creator since content is in pre-release/crowdfunding. The article has been reviewed by TTRPGkids before posting to the site.
Campfire is a distinct intro TTPRG because it allows anyone to play out any kind of story, anywhere! Made of washable, waterproof materials in a stainless steel case, Campfire’s ideal for game nights out on the town, in the classroom, or in the wild.
And any player can pick up Campfire and play out a story within just a matter of minutes, even someone who’s never played or ran a TTRPG at all! Written for a 7th-grade reading level and with rules based around a single ten-sided die, Campfire’s easy to learn. It’s also easy to adapt your own stories, with instructions on how to turn your favorite educational subjects, shows, movies, books, or ideas into a story that can be played out, a “Story Sheet.”
Campfire comes with five Story Sheets already, featuring a variety of genres from Mystery to Action Adventure, written by award-winning gamemaster, Wojtek Borowicz. Blood on the Snow, its Survival Horror story, won Best Adventure at Ireland’s top gaming convention, GaelCon. Each starter Story Sheet comes with illustrated handouts, maps, and character cards, all on material you can clean after a messy class or gaming at the pub.
Campfire is fun for all ages, all players, anywhere. It’s best for middle school and above, and has a section focused on how educators can translate their subjects into a Campfire Story Sheet that teaches to standards. Created with consultation from the leadership of Educators for Excellence, it’s a teacher-focused way to bring gaming to education, but it’s accessible for almost any age. Teachers, students, parents and kids alike can pick up Campfire, take it anywhere, and teach others to play out cool stories in a matter of minutes!
