TTRPGkids episode 18 on ludology podcast

TTRPGkids on Ludology Podcast, Episode 18: Let’s talk about Arithmagine, a maths teaching TTRPG

TTRPGkids has a regular spot on Ludology Podcast, and in this part of the series, I’ll be talking about educational TTRPGs! Episode 18 looks specifically at Arithmagine (by Luck of Legends) as an example of how to use TTRPGs to teach math AND to help us breakdown what differentiates an intentionally educational game from a game that has intrinsic educational benefits.

Ludology podcast is a discussion-based show about the hows and whys of tabletop games! They have longer form episodes every other week, and, on one of the off weeks each month, we have the TTRPGkids show! These shorter episodes will cover topics that are focused on tabletop RPGs for kids and youth, and I’m excited to share the link to the 18th episode here!

In this episode, I breakdown Arithmagine, a math teaching game system by Luck of Legends, to highlight how mechanics can be used to teach very specific goals and stretch beyond teaching just addition and subtraction. The analysis for this system also goes into what makes a game intentionally educational (versus saying that all games have some educational benefit) and is a great example of how to build your intentions into the system, not just the story.
